Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha, High Court of Chhattisgarh, Takes Ground-breaking Step in Virtually Monitoring National Lok Adalat Across 23 Districts

Bilaspur, July 13th, 2024: In a ground-breaking initiative, Hon’ble Chief Justice
of the High Court of Chhattisgarh and Patron-in-Chief of the Chhattisgarh State
Legal Services Authority, Hon’ble Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, virtually connected
with all 23 districts from the High Court to oversee the progress of this year’s second
National Lok Adalat. This significant step underscores the crucial role that Lok
Adalats play in the amicable resolution of disputes, promoting peace and harmony
within society.
The Lok Adalat held this time was particularly remarkable due to the personal
interest and dedication of Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha. His belief that
the duties of a High Court Judge as custodian of public trust extend beyond
courtrooms led to this historical success. Inspired by his leadership, Hon’ble High
Court Judges visited their respective portfolio districts, ensuring thorough monitoring
and successful organization of the Lok Adalat, bringing satisfaction to numerous
litigants.
During a virtual session with a Magistrate Court in Raigarh District, a domestic
violence case involving an elderly couple was resolved in the presence of Hon’ble the
Chief Justice. This amicable settlement highlighted the effectiveness of virtual
monitoring. Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha expressed appreciation for the
efforts of both litigants and offered his best wishes for their future, emphasizing the
human touch in judicial proceedings.

Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha visited two of the benches
constituted for National Lok Adalat for High Court of Bilaspur. Apart from the visit
his Lord utilized virtual platforms to connect with and monitor the proceedings in all
23 districts. This innovative approach not only ensured transparency but also
highlighted the commitment to leverage technology to enhance judicial processes.
Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha’s virtual presence and real-time interaction
with Principal District Judges exemplified a new era of judicial oversight and public
trust.
Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha’s initiative extended to ensuring the
presence of Hon’ble High Court Judges in their respective districts, bolstering public
trust and the credibility of the National Lok Adalats across Chhattisgarh. This hands-
on approach, coupled with virtual oversight from Bilaspur, guaranteed transparency
and efficiency in resolving disputes, from Taluka courts to the High Court.
The concerted efforts of the judiciary, spearheaded by Hon’ble Chief Justice
Shri Ramesh Sinha, culminated in a historically successful Lok Adalat, characterized
by numerous amicable resolutions and happy litigants. This initiative sets a new
standard for future Lok Adalats, showcasing the potential of virtual monitoring and
on-ground involvement in delivering justice effectively and compassionately.
This National Lok Adalat was organized within the State across all levels
including Taluka Courts, District Courts, Tribunal and Forums and High Court
through 605 benches constituted for the same, and the final data revealed staggering
success with settlement of total 8,31,848 cases comprising 7,66,629 pre-litigation
cases and 65,129 pending cases, extending financial relief totaling to ₹
2,30,09,55,219. Various disputes, including labor disputes, motor accident claims,
cheque dishonor cases, civil cases, land acquisition cases, plea bargaining, criminal
compoundable offenses, arbitration cases, matrimonial cases, and issues related to
electricity and water bills were addressed for settlement in this National Lok Adalat.

Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha has extended his heartfelt thanks to
Hon’ble Portfolio Judges who visited their Respective Portfolio Districts on the
occasion of National Lok Adalat. Hon’ble Chief Justice expressed his thanks to
Hon’ble Presiding Judges of the two benches constituted for the High Court. He also
expressed his thanks to esteemed Principal District Judges of all 23 District Courts,
Presiding officers and members of all the benches including the deployed staff, PLVs,
Officers of other departments and all stakeholders who have directly or indirectly
contributed to the disposal process, as well as the print and electronic media that have
amplified the relevance of Lok Adalat. Hon’ble Chief Justice also expressed his
thanks to litigants, who have braved the challenges of weather and long journeys to
make this Lok Adalat a historic success.

Bilaspur, September 21st, 2024: This year’s third National Lok Adalat was successfully organized on September 21, 2024, across the state under the able guidance of Hon’ble Shri Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh and Patron-in-Chief of the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority. This National Lok Adalat spanned judicial levels from the Taluka courts to the High Court, making justice more approachable and swifter. To boost the morale of Judicial Officers and instill a strengthened sense of security and faith in the institution of Lok Adalat among citizens, the Hon’ble Chief Justice virtually connected with all 23 District Courts of the State from the High Court.
